One look at the track outline tells you how important drag races were to the guys designing the track.
Another Hobie Smith vintage shot from an ARP drag race weekend.	This is a pic of Butch Lake, this south austin racer had the winningest 1955 Sedan Delivery in the old street eliminator class at ARP. He consistantly beat the a/gas Willys and anglias of that time and the b/mp '55 and 57 chevys too. This picture taken in '69 is actually taken at Odessa Raceway. Butch ran the Hands Hauler Too, beating the likes of Riley Simon, George Cox, Fred Rousey, Jimmy Cox, and many more. His winning streak was legendary, and he was young and quite a colorful guy.
