Austin Raceway Park - Drag Race Photos
These photos were submitted by Bob Kramer. The photos and descriptions
are from a web site Bob used to have. At some point Bob is planning
on getting his site going again. Until then, you can enjoy some
of his efforts here. Thanks Bob!

| A view down the front straight towards the Tower and the stands.
These photos thanks to Wayne Hill (road race) and Hobie Smith (drag race)..

The Oil Derrick Tower, complete with Race Control and concessions.

| Formula cars heading down the front straight, maybe FV.
|
Production and Sports racers on the front straight.
You can see the stands better in this picture.

 |
| On the pic border it says Dec '68, I don't know the drivers names on
these two, but I do have some pics of drivers names I do remember,
as soon as I learn to compress these files I'll send you some more. Hobie Smith.

Paddock photo from Hobie Smith. ARP was built by guys who just wanted a
place to race. One look at the track outline tells you how important drag races
were to the guys designing the track.

| Another Hobie Smith vintage shot from an ARP drag race weekend.

This is a pic of Butch Lake, this south austin racer had the winningest
1955 Sedan Delivery in the old street eliminator class at ARP.
He consistantly beat the a/gas Willys and anglias of that time
and the b/mp '55 and 57 chevys too.
This picture taken in '69 is actually taken at Odessa Raceway.
Butch ran the Hands Hauler Too, beating the likes of Riley Simon,
George Cox, Fred Rousey, Jimmy Cox, and many more.
His winning streak was legendary, and he was young and quite a colorful guy.
